Rear Shock Tuning

Stock shock re-valving is a philosophy in itself!! Should one re-valve, or simply throw away the OEM damper and replace with a better design? There are different reasons as to why one might choose either route; obviously ‘budget’ features strongly. Yet in many cases it is simply a matter of fixing an inherent flaw within the original design, or tailoring to the owner… EG: making a B1/2 ZX6R a lot plusher and ride-able for the roads; or reducing squat in many Honda shocks, and the packing in Suzuki’s’… Very acceptable results can mostly be had from working with what is there; but not always, and so the ‘chuck it and replace’ route is sometimes a better option.
